Young Hands

I was working once and this lady who could be in maybe her late 60's came to my register. It was obvious there was something very wrong with her “up there”. I knew from the moment I saw her I would always remember her. She has wearing a faux fur coat with a broken zipper and pins holding it together. She also had a weave that was very messy and untamed. The weave was probably beneath her gluteus. Her face had many wrinkles and the ways her lips were tucked in told me she had no teeth. She reeked of cigarettes and in a very raspy voice she asked me to get her the pictures she had ordered. I then looked up and noticed she had the most beautiful eyes I’ve seen in a very long time. They were shiny and blue, the type of eyes you would never forget.

A few weeks later she comes back and I obviously remember her faux coat, weave, and beautiful eyes. She asks me for a pack of camel pink and when she puts her bag on the counter I noticed that not only did she have the most beautiful eyes, she also had the most beautiful and rejuvenating hands for a woman of such age. There was not one wrinkle in site and her nails were shiny and clean. I couldn’t put it together, I looked at her face and back at her hands and I was in awe. I get the camel pink and I ask her for her date of birth although I definitely knew she was older than 21.( I have to no matter what). She gets a little bothered and says she doesn’t want to tell me her birthday because she doesn’t like her birthday since she’s so old. When she gave me her license I proved she was in her 60’s. I hand her the cigarettes and she leaves.

I will always wonder how has she been able to keep her hands so young and beautiful.

  2. Oh I really wish I could hold a conversation with her but everytime she goes by I get a cough attack. Not only that but she's not completely there and contradicts her every word. It's kind of hard. :(
